Proud American Artist/Author in joint venture with Ottawa, Canada Students
How did American Geno Peoples, author of Ax Seeker of Justice come to be associated with gifted students from the ABC Ottawa Take-off program? Allbooks Review, managing editor and founder, Shirley A. Roe met Peoples during a book- signing event in Panama City, Florida. As an author promotion and book review source, Allbooks Review works with authors from all over the world. Ms. Roe and one of her regular reviewers, Emily Jane Hills Orford were working on a contest for the ABC Ottawa Take-off program. Mr. Peoples agreed to supply the group with copies of his book, which the students read and reviewed. Students also read and reviewed A Call to Faith and Freedom, a historical fiction by Shirley A. Roe. A prize of $50 is being offered to the students producing the best reviews, as well as an opportunity to become one of the Allbooks Review regular reviewers.

FEATURE
This happens so often at Allbooks Review, I had to print this article by my friend and fellow editor, Carolyn Howard Johnson.
Dear Publisher/author:
I received a copy of a book XX yesterday. Lovely cover. Good title. But no note, no review copy label. No business card. No cover letter. Nothing. What to do with it? Endorsement? Review? A mention in my newsletter (is the author a subscriber)? There wasn’t even an e - mail or Web site address for the author. That means I have to research my mail before I begin to schedule my week’s work.
Sorry to be grumpy, but this is one of the reasons that reviewers get a bad name and why authors get called “snooty” because we don’t answer our mail. We (authors, editors, freelance writers) often wear many hats - - and we also have very short memories!
I'm only mentioning this so that you might fix your system. Perhaps you could include a little postcard in your mailings? It could include author contact information and/or mentions the purpose for which it is being sent. Don’t leave us without essential information.
Your job as your own publicist (even if you have hired one) is to make things as easy as possible on your readers, editors, agents and others. Give them what they need to work quickly. They will be indebted. If you don't, they may drop you . . . or at least not ask come back for more mistreatment.
I realize that, as authors, we often don’t have control over what our publisher or the press that may send out our copies, so that leads me to another tip:
I remember agent Michael Larsen mentioning this at one of the first writer’s conferences I attended. He said, "Follow up!" If, a couple of days after I received something in the mail I didn’t know what to do with, it would be a help if the author asked if I got the review copy (or whatever it was!), not a hindrance.
We authors are in business, after all. And good business communication is essential for good business! We hear all the time that agents and publishers and editors don’t like to be hounded. Well, no. They don’t. But they do like to be helped.
By the way, I didn't mention plain old manners in the letter I sent. (I guess I wasn't in such a bad mood after all!) I mean, what would it have hurt to include a thank you?
Happy Writing, Promoting and Editing, too!

ALLBOOKS INTERVIEW
Please state your name and location. (city and State or Province, Country)
I am Barry Eva, though I write under the name of “Storyheart”
I currently live in Seymour, CT, USA moving from England
Tell us the title and publisher of your book:
Book is called “Across the Pond” and is published by Xlibris
Tell us about yourself:
Born in Barnet, Hertfordshire, Barry, also known as “Storyheart”, left his beloved England in 2000, moving to the USA to be with the woman he'd met and fallen in love with on the Internet.
Better known for his short romance stories on the net and in his book “Stories from the Heart”. Barry is popular for narrating his stories on local TV, running his own blog chat radio show or as a guest on other media stations, where his whit, oratory, and old-fashioned English charm make him a popular interviewee.
When was the book released?
October 2008
Give us an overview of your book.
Finding himself packed off to friends in the USA, fifteen-year-old English born Fred Squire is not happy. Then he meets Brittany.
Struggling with his feelings for Brit and the language, Fred is further confused when he meets Brit's flirtatious friend, Angel.
Escaping from a confrontation with Steve Harris, the neighborhood bully, Brit tells Fred her dark secret about Harris, and Fred's world is turned upside down.
Life continues to throw Fred a curve ball when he catches a baseball worth a small fortune. Further run-ins with Harris, a crazy family BBQ, and a chase through a mall all add to Fred's American adventure.
Brit and her Brit", know that their young love will be followed by heartache when Fred has to return to England. But not before some final twists in the tale.
Across the Pond is an enjoyable 117 pages that goes from through all aspects of young love. With believable characters, exciting events, humor, first love, education and a little sport thrown in for good measure. Across the Pond is a book for all ages, from the young to the young at heart.
What inspired you to write this book?
They say write about what you know and myself moving across the pond, I know many of the issues that me hero comes up against.
How is your book different from other books in this genre?
It is being enjoyed by all ages, rather than just young adults. With over sixty reviews on Amazon alone since it came out last October. The reviews are from people from ten to eighty. That is why I now say “for the young and young at heart”. So many people have picked up and enjoyed different aspects of the book, the humor, characters, the language differences and so much more.
Where can people buy your book?
It is available on all internet book sites from Amazon, Barnes and Noble down to Target.
Are you working on another book? If so when do you expect it to be published?
Yes many people have mentioned the fact there are one of two threads that can be made into another novel, which I have now started it. It will be called “Across the Pond and Back Again” and carries on from where the first book ends. I hope to complete it this year.
If you self published, what advice can you give to fellow writers?
Look around see what other people are saying, before taking the step. There is so much out there and so many people who will be only to glad to help. Set up what you can before the book is launched, web page, face book etc the internet is the way to go. Many offerings are out there for little money compared to what publishers might offer as an extra. No matter what you have make the effort, it will not all come to you on a plate.
Be proud of what you the writer produce
Can you share one of your marketing successes with us?
Where do I start…?
Virtual Book Tours I think, traveling and appearing around the world without leaving your desk, something I was able to do even while recovering from back surgery. It was so much fun appearing on different locations every day and meeting such fun people. Some publishing houses etc charge an arm and a leg for such stuff. I would without any hesitation recommend the people I used for my tour with. The wonderful group of ladies at "pumpupyourbookpromotion.com”
The cost is a fraction of what many charge, and along with the fun, managed to get myself and my book into many places around the world.
This was a big step along the marketing road.
How did you find Allbooks Reviews and what are you hoping for in your relationship with us?
It was recommended to me by other authors, writers groups and friends, it is another step along the marketing road.
Was the low cost a surprise? What other things would you like Allbooks Reviews to offer writers?
The cost and the service offered were very reasonable. The service was as good as I had heard and expected. And I’m sure will be using some other offerings from Allbooks
Thank you for this interview and best of luck with your book.
Thank you for having me as a guest
